What will happen if the Senate doesn’t convict Trump

Dear Republican Senators,

I get that you want to represent the voice of your electorates, and I think that is admirable.

But I don’t think you are seeing the dangers if you fail to convict Trump.

A failure to convict Trump will pose as a grave threat to our democracy.

Why?

1.) It would create a dangerous precedent for sedition.

Trump tried to maintain power by repeatedly lying about the election. Eighty-six judges have rejected his or his followers claims of election fraud. And even after all these false claims, he incited an armed and dangerous group to attack the capitol in a vicious attempt to refute the election.

If you don’t convict these actions quickly and decisively, it could happen every single time there is an election. Would Democracy win every time? How many more lives will be lost? How much time effort and resources do you want to spend trying to fight insurgencies and domestic terrorism?

Prevention is far more effective and cost effective than allowing potential violence and extremism to perpetuate.

2.) It would validate fake news & conspiracy theories, and thus allow it to thrive.

The best way to stop fake news and “looney lies” is to stop the most powerful people that perpetuate it. Otherwise social media, news companies, politicians, and concerned citizens will have to spend a massive amount of time, effort and resources fighting lies.

Thanks to Trump, the Republican party has become synonymous with conspiratorial thinking. You’ve lost credibility with the members of your party, and constituents who value truth and evidence. By continuing to support such people, you are losing the trust of the majority. As the Democrats continue to gain trust from being truthful and showing us that they care, your ability to win elections will continue to be compromised.

This is your chance to redeem your own integrity and trust in the Republican party.

3.) The potential for Trump or another autocratic figure to become “president”, can easily lead to the end of democracy, as it did with Hitler and Mussolini.

As thousands of mental health experts in Duty to Warn have warned, and explained in the movie #Unfit, Trump is a malignant narcissist.

Malignant narcissism includes 4 components: 1.) narcissism 2.) paranoia, 3.) anti-social personality disorder and 4.) sadism. The diagnosis fits him perfectly. And thanks to the Tarasoff rule, mental health experts who can see the evidence clearly, have a Duty to Warn the public.

In contrast to most people who do not share his diagnosis, Trump is incapable of censoring himself using empathy or ethics. Neuroscientists have shown that narcissists have structural differences in their brain. The gray matter in their insular cortex that is responsible for the processing and generation of compassion, is markedly reduced. A narcissist has no motivation to develop empathy, and even if he did, cortical gray matter cannot spontaneously regenerate as an adult.

Malignant narcissists who can’t receive love, seek power. They delight in being feared and worshiped. Trump’s obsession has always at its core been about obtaining power and control. He shares the diagnosis of malignant narcissism with Hitler and Mussolini. He lies purposely as he knows it divides and confuses everyone else. His method is what the expert in authoritarianism Lisel Hinz calls, the naming, blaming and framing of the authoritarian playbook. His true mission is to thwart democracy. The more power a malignant narcissist has, the more dangerous he can get. The only way to limit their power is if we keep them from it!

This vote is your chance to vote in favor of democracy or dictatorship. Whatever way you decide to vote will show us citizens what you value more!

In contrast, if you convict Trump:

You will help awaken the Q’Anon followers out of their trance!

The mass arrests by the FBI have started to do this. But you must treat the leaders with the same gravity as you do the followers. Otherwise, you empower more conspiracy theory advocates to get elected. They will continue to force you to contend with whatever “looney lies” they use to serve their own purposes.

A healthy democracy requires that the laws be applied to everyone fairly regardless of their power, and social class.

A healthy democracy requires an understanding that it can only survive if we adhere to the truth.

And a healthy democracy requires leaders who are more loyal to Democracy, than they are to powerful individuals that break the laws.

Your vote will either be in favor of democracy or dictatorship. I hope you can fully appreciate what the conviction of seditionist president means to the American public, and to our future.
